Art in Action High School Graduate Fine Arts 2018 Scholarship
In memory of Edward Robin Hoyer

In 2012, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Art in Action we initiated an annual scholarship to encourage young artists in Burlington pursuing a post secondary education in the fine arts. We were able to offer 2 scholarships of $1000.00 each to two Burlington students. Every year since 2012 we’ve presented one Scholarship with a value between $1000.00 – $1,500.00 to a talented student.

This year’s scholarship has a minimum value of $1000.00 and will be awarded to the most deserving student at their high school’s commencement ceremonies. The student is invited to participate in the gallery exhibit, the Burlington Studio Tour, and will receive media attention.

The 2018 Scholarship deadline is May 15, 2018.

The student must graduate from a Burlington High School in the school year 2017/2018, and intend to pursue a future career in the Arts, studying at the post secondary level in an arts focused program. The jurors are looking for originality, creativity, concept and execution.

Application Process

Each Burlington High School may nominate up to two students for this award. The student must complete an application form, include four to six jpeg images of their art, and be endorsed by the school’s Principal. NOTE: Do not include a name on the jpeg that identifies either the student or the high-school. Images where this information is visible will not be considered. All images submitted must be in the jpeg format. CDs or USB drives are equally acceptable. If you would like your images returned, include a self-addressed stamped envelope. All applications must be post marked by May 15, 2018 or delivered to Darlene Throop at 1295 Knights Bridge Ct. Burlington, L7P 3K8 by May 15, 2018.

All students, their Principals and Heads of Guidance will be notified by June 30, 2018.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Darlene Throop, scholarship coordinator for Art in Action, at or call 905 332-0348.

About Art in Action

Art in Action is an organization that assists artists towards becoming entrepreneurs by encouraging a social community for artists within Burlington. As well, Art in Action provides exposure for the artists within the Burlington community. Art in Action organizes and promotes a weekend Burlington Studio Tour on the first weekend of November, where juried participants showcase their work to the public in their own or guest studio locations. The self-guided tour is free for the public to come and enjoy. Other events include a gallery exhibit with work from all the artists in early fall.

Years and years of growing as an artist wasn't easy, as nothing ever is. Winning this scholarship would mean that I'd get to further my passion with the opportunities it's going to give me. Not only that but just receiving this scholarship renewed my drive for what I love to do and became that positive push to keep me going towards what I want in life. "
